Can ChatGPT make phone calls? Tuvoz setup and examples

Let ChatGPT place real phone calls: upload the Tuvoz plugin on chatgpt.com, install and connect it in the ChatGPT desktop app, and ask for calls in any chat there. ChatGPT answers the voice agent's questions, and Tuvoz calls you when it can't.

Install

Paste this into ChatGPT:

Set up Tuvoz: https://tuvoz.io/agents

Your agent follows tuvoz.io/agents.

ChatGPT can place real phone calls through the Tuvoz plugin in its desktop app. You approve the brief before dialing. The voice agent asks ChatGPT when it needs more information, and Tuvoz calls you when ChatGPT cannot answer.

Tuvoz gives your agent a US phone line for calls to businesses and agreed recipients in the US, Canada and the UK. See the phone call MCP server and supported setup paths, pricing, and a practical example: ask an agent to check stock by phone.

Step by step

When you paste the line, ChatGPT reads the setup page and walks you through these steps. The clicks are yours:

  1. Download the plugin from tuvoz.io/chatgpt/latest. It’s a zip with one folder, tuvoz.
  2. Upload it on chatgpt.com. Open chatgpt.com/plugins, click “Add” at the top right, then “Upload plugin archive”. Pick the zip itself; don’t unzip it.
  3. Get the ChatGPT desktop app from chatgpt.com/download (Mac or Windows) and sign in with the same account, if you don’t have it yet.
  4. Install and connect Tuvoz. In the desktop app, open “Plugins”, then Tuvoz under “Personal”. Install it and configure its connector: click “Connect”, sign in with Google and approve. The first time, you’ll also verify your mobile number and confirm your legal name, which is the name the voice agent gives when someone asks who it’s calling for.
  5. Say “Set up Tuvoz” in a new chat in the desktop app. That’s it: the sign-in carries over to every chat there.

Then make the test call below to hear the opener a business would hear.

During a call

Ask with @Tuvoz. ChatGPT shows you the brief, the number and the opening line, and waits for your yes; while the call runs it answers the voice agent’s questions or has Tuvoz call you, and at the end it reports the outcome and the minutes used (how the backchannel works). To follow along, open Calls in your Tuvoz dashboard.

Your first test call

Ask ChatGPT for a test call, in your own words or with this. Tuvoz calls your own phone; the first time, it asks you to press 1 to confirm you agree to AI calls on that number, unless your Tuvoz assistant called you to verify it.

Example prompts

  • @Tuvoz call Luigi's Trattoria at (415) 555-0142 and ask if they can seat 6 tonight at 7. If not, ask about 8.
  • @Tuvoz here's my order confirmation. Call the store at (312) 555-0177 and ask when it will ship.
  • @Tuvoz make a test call to my phone.

Limits and caveats

  • You upload the plugin on chatgpt.com, then install it and ask for calls in the ChatGPT desktop app on a Mac or Windows computer. A plugin you upload runs only there: not on chatgpt.com and not in the mobile app.
  • Connect once. The plugin's connector keeps its sign-in between chats in the desktop app.
  • To update the plugin, download the new zip and pick Upload new version in the ••• menu on Tuvoz's page under Plugins.
  • ChatGPT asks before each tool that acts (placing a call, answering a question, hanging up). You can approve a tool for the rest of the conversation; new conversations ask again.
  • ChatGPT checks a live call in waits of up to 25 seconds. If it stops checking, Tuvoz calls your verified phone a few seconds after the voice agent asks a question, and asks you.
  • Your sign-in stays until you disconnect it, in ChatGPT or under Connected agents in your Tuvoz dashboard.

FAQ

What's in the plugin?
Two things: the Tuvoz skill, the playbook ChatGPT follows to write the brief, wait for your yes, watch the call and answer the voice agent; and the Tuvoz connector, the tools that place and follow the call. You install them together and sign in once.
Can I set it up on chatgpt.com or in the ChatGPT mobile app?
No. ChatGPT runs a plugin you upload only in its desktop app, so install Tuvoz in the ChatGPT desktop app on a Mac or Windows computer and ask for calls there.
Do I need to paste an API key?
No. You sign in with Google on Tuvoz's site and approve ChatGPT. ChatGPT never sees your password, and you can disconnect it any time under Connected agents in your Tuvoz dashboard.
What if I close the chat during a call?
The call keeps going. If the voice agent has a question and ChatGPT isn't checking in, Tuvoz calls your verified phone, asks you, and passes the answer back into the call.
Does this work with ChatGPT dots?
Yes. Your dot installs the phone-call skill and Python script on your connected computer and runs it there. The ChatGPT dots guide has the steps.
